December Highlights
Heavy tourist rush starts in December and keeps growing marking it the beginning of high season. The hotel rates, tour package prices and car rental rates have all climbed up to the peak by now. The reason being the start of a great weather. The monsoon is completely gone and there is virtually no rain in this period. The temperature has also come down slightly averaging to about 28°C.
However the day's high temperature can easily climb to about 32°C during the day time.
While the average humidity also comes down slightly during this period, it still remains quite high and can cause discomfort during outdoor activities when the sun is beating down. You get an average of about 7 hours of sunshine on any day. But overall, you will start enjoying the best weather of Langkawi. The ocean becomes calm and offers excellent opportunities for water sports like swimming, snorkeling, diving and also boating tours & cruises.
Craft Festival is held at the Craft Complex. It's a great opportunity to experience the diverse skills and talents of the local artists & artisans, and also understand the island's rich culture and heritage. Batik, handicraft items made of forest based products like wood & leaves, paper based products, silverware, bronzeware are some of the items worth noting.
Due to large influx of tourists during this time, Christmas is also celebrated in the island widely, although majority of the population is Muslims. You will find the shops, restaurants and the malls being so colorfully decorated with lights.
