Top Hotels in Langkawi
Budget, Mid-Range & Luxury
The budget hotels in Langkawi mostly offer basic amenities like AC, private bath with showers etc. Some may additionally offer safety lockers, fridge etc. And most in this category won't have a restaurant of their own. Many won't clean or make your bed daily unless you ask for it.
But still, there are some that are exceptional in value when you consider location, cleanliness, service, friendliness and in-room amenities. The upscale hotels on the other hand will go all the way to pamper you to extremes with world class luxury amenities.
Most budget and midrange hotels will take a refundable key deposit. The amount varies, but an average would be about RM100. While checking out, this amount is refunded when you hand over the room key back to the hotel staff.

As you approach Perdana Quay on the Harbor, you won't miss this white grand building on one side with its own private beach and wonderful view of the marina.
Located at the north western shore of the Island, The Datai is known to be an exclusive resort for those seeking seclusion & nature finely blended with luxury. This five star resort is a favorite to many Europeans and other foreigners who like to immerse themselves into the landscape of rainforest on the slope of a hill where the resort is located, enjoy a lovely private beach at the foothill, and experience the secluded luxury of villas spread across the jungle where some of them even have their own private pools.
Many would vote Westin as the second best resort in the island although it's located in the commercial hub Kuah. It is the only resort in Kuah that has its own private beach and that too 500 meters long stretch of sands. With one of the finest Spas, great restaurants, infinity pool, and overall a tranquil and green ambience across a vast stretch of area where battery carts transfer the guests from one point to the other, this is no doubt a great resort.
This is another great resort located on the northern shoreline with its own private section of the Tanjung Rhu beach. The resort with most of the rooms overlooking the sea, has its own watersport center, beach bar, pools, and great restaurants (including casual & fine dining). If you are looking for a romantic setting in a secluded area, great food, excellent views and unmatched service, then this can be an ideal resort to choose. From the Buaru Bay Beach when you look back up to these string of red chalets on the water with Mount Mat Cincang in the background, the scene is awesome and you would wish to stay here at least once in your life. This is a great beachside resort offering five star amenities including lobby lounge, outdoor pool, fitness center, outdoor tennis court, Spa facility, restaurants and lot more. The Chime bar with its vibrant live music is a popular nightspot. You have a choice of nicely appointed rooms overlooking the pool, sea or the garden.

Dear Raj, I am travelling with my 5 year old nephew to Langkawi! We are staying for 5 days 4 nights and accommodation at the Gemalai village. Do you have any thoughts and/or comments about this hotel? In terms of accessibility and getting around , getting food etc.
Raj (langkawi-insight.com) April 2018
Hi, Gemalai is a nice way to experience traditional Malay village stay although with some modern amenities :) You get excellent views of the paddy field. However there isn't much to do here other than enjoying the greenery from the room and taking a bicycle (provided) free and getting around Laman Padi. So 5 days might be a bit of a stretch, otherwise okay. The Cenang beach and the restaurants are only 10-minute walk.

Hi, Firstly, thank you for all of the information you have given in this website, I really find this very useful as I am planning to have my honeymoon with my husband and another couple of our friends to langkawi next month. We will be going there for 4d2n by flight and was thinking to book Century Langkawi Beach Resort from agoda.com. I notice that you did not mention this hotel in your website hence I was wondering if you have any comment or review about this resort?
Raj (langkawi-insight.com) February 2015
Hi, the resort has changed ownership, earlier it was Four Points by Sheraton when it was really nice. Being a former Sheraton property you can imagine what may be the potential. However it needs some serious renovation and upgrades, and often remains empty these days. That's why you get such attractive rates for such property which would otherwise cost more than double. But with the present rate, it's still a good value for money, if you can of course accept the few negatives. You can see my review of the hotel here on this link.

Hi Raj, thanks for the great useful website. Im a female who will be going on 2 nights to Langkawi (Cenang beach) will stay at Sandy Beach resort (what do u think? safe for female traveller?). I will arrive to Langkawi at 8:30am on December 20 and leave on 3pm December 22.
Raj (langkawi-insight.com) December 2015
Hi, Sandy Beach Resort is an average budget hotel. You may have a mixed experience depending on the kind of room you get. Some are not well maintained. Garden view rooms are on the opposite side of the road (away from the beach). Try to get a beach view room. There is hardly any service and the food is quite bad. But there is no safety issue. Location is excellent. It's okay for sleeping at nights.

Hi Raj, I have read your website and it is very interesting and informative. I need to book a hotel in Langkawi for my holiday in December. I have checked out so many hotels. Sadly my first choice which is the Four Seasons Resort is not within my price range! I am seriously considering the Danna which I will be able to afford. From the many many reviews I have gone through it seems like a great place with fantastic service. What I liked about resorts like The Andaman and The Four Seasons is that its not a big hotel with all the rooms in one building but all spread out. With pictures I have seen of the Danna it looks like a big hotel. I am so confused. Any advice will be much appreciated. Thank You
Raj (langkawi-insight.com) November 2015
Danna is basically a luxury hotel and what you are looking for is a resort, and therefore the confusion. You can also look into Berjaya which gives you choice of rain forest or ocean-front chalets among many. Another nice option is Frangipani in Pantai Tengah... read my reviews of the resorts.

Hi Raj, useful to find your Langkawi guide which I have been perusing, but am getting muddled with mixing it with all the TripAdvisor reviews! I want to come to Langkawi early Nov (8 days) for rest and relaxation - beach and walks. I'd love to do some water skiing if I can find it. I'd like a simple hotel (I'm not bothered about 5*) close to the beach - but am prepared to pay more if that's required for a beach view, and within easy distance to decent eateries and a bar. I'm not interested in upmarket dining either - or vast buffets, but just to explore the local cuisine. I won't have a car, but will take a taxi if necessary. What I don't want is to be totally cut off, but I don't want brash night life either! Where is your suggestion I stay? A friend had a wonderful stay in Mutyara burau Bay resort but it seems to have closed. Many thanks for your time. Geraldine
Raj (langkawi-insight.com) October 2014
Hi, Yes... I agree Mutiara Burau Bay had its own charm. I was there on its last month of operation. It's hard to find one like that... a resort so near yet so far. Berjaya is close to Mutiara sharing the same beach, but doesn't give you the same homely and intimate feeling. Since you don't want to be cut off and want a beach view, you can look into Frangipani in Pantai Tengah or Casa Del Mar in Pantai Cenang. Both are good quality hotels. Frangipani will give you a feel of a resort with its own beach. While Casa Del Mar is right on Pantai Cenang beach, which is a public beach but has its own lounging area. Both Cenang and Tengah areas are known for range of restaurants, although Cenang is more popular with tourists and has much larger concentration of shops & bars. Frangipani organizes water skiing although quite ironically they encourage green practices to avoid motorised water sports. Regards,

Hi, I am travelling to langkawi on 19th Oct with my mom. We are taking flight and reaching airport at 4.30pm. We have booked Desa Terrace (Pls. Tell if its good in terms of distance and rooms). We liked Rasa Exotica Vacation Home (but the reviews are BAD) Pls. Suggest . (WHICH of TWO is better)
Raj (langkawi-insight.com) September 2014
Hi, none of the hotels are great choices, but location of Rasa is much better. Desa Terrace is in an odd location and not within walking distance to a beach.
